Why pick Tombigbee Fiber over other providers?

The answer is straightforward. Tombigbee Fiber, LLC is part of Tombigbee Electric Power Association, which is owned by its members. When we say we are “Bringing Your Fiber to You,” we mean it is yours. The money you pay supports building and maintaining the system with local folks in our community.

If you face issues, you will connect with local people, and all decisions are made locally. We will serve you just like we have powered you for over eighty-eight years. If you spot a red truck, it means Tombigbee Electric or Tombigbee Fiber is there to assist you.

What do I do if the Tombigbee Fiber website doesn’t know my address for internet service?

Just give us a call at 877-FIBER2U, and someone will help you with an estimated timeline.

Do I have to add my name to a list to get Tombigbee Fiber when it’s ready in my area?

Tombigbee Fiber will announce when service is ready in your area through social media, the website, door hangers, and/or mailers. You will need to fill out a service selection application when registration is open in your area.

Do I have to pay anything upfront when I sign up for internet service?

During the fiber construction buildout, Tombigbee does not ask for a deposit or installation fee. Your first bill might be prorated, covering service selection costs from the connection date to the following month’s end.

Once the first bill is paid, subsequent bills will be a flat rate based on your chosen service plan. You can find more details about proration at www.tombigbeefiber.com/prorated-billing.

Why does it take 3-6 months for the internet service to start if the fiber lines are already in my area?

Seeing fiber lines in your area shows construction progress, but it does not indicate when your service will be ready. With about 4,000 miles of fiber to build, we use different resources at different times to make progress in multiple areas simultaneously. Typically, fiber construction follows electric feeders, which must be completed before turning them on for service.

A feeder can serve many customers and span several miles. After full construction, the tedious process of splicing fiber begins, taking weeks to complete. Other factors affecting timelines include weather and road crossings. Tombigbee is working hard to provide accurate timelines for construction progress.

How much time will it take for the service to come to my area after the “black box” is on the pole?

The “black box” is where the mainline fiber meets the fiber drop to homes or businesses, called a tap. A tap signals that fiber is getting closer, but it does not mean it is available yet. There are many taps along a fiber feeder.

After placing the tap, splicing, testing, and opening the feeder for service must happen. Tombigbee will notify you through social media, the website, door hanger, or the mailer when it is time to register for fiber service.

How will my fiber service link to my house? Will it be underground or above the ground?

Usually, your fiber service follows the same path as your electricity. If your power is underground, your fiber service will be too. If your electricity is overhead, your fiber service will be overhead as well.

Will Tombigbee provide internet service to every member of Tombigbee Electric?

Yes, Tombigbee is constructing fiber infrastructure to cover its entire electric service area. Once the buildout is done, if you are with Tombigbee Electric Power Association for electricity, you will have the chance to get internet service through Tombigbee Fiber.

Why is fiber optic internet better than DSL, satellite, and other forms of the internet?

It’s simple: Fiber optic is the fastest internet around. The cables transfer data quicker than satellite or DSL.

Can I use fiber optic internet to watch live TV without any problems?

Yes, Fiber optic internet can handle multiple streaming platforms at the same time. Tombigbee Fiber provides the bandwidth to meet each customer’s needs.

Will Tombigbee provide internet service to anyone outside the Tombigbee Electric system?

Yes, Tombigbee will extend into other areas, especially those with federal funding. While Tombigbee Electric members are the priority, there might be small sections of the system as construction progresses.

Does Tombigbee get money from grants to bring internet to areas that don’t have it?

Yes, Tombigbee has secured grants from the State of MS and the Federal Government. Each program comes with specific requirements and timelines for serving designated areas. The State of MS funds have already brought service to 3,800 rural customers, with 2,200 now connected. Among them, 1,300 were entirely unserved customers in our Northwest electric service territory, and over 1,200 have signed up for service.

We have completed almost half of our project in the areas defined as unserved under the Mississippi Grant Program. Our goal is to cover our entire service territory. The federal funding, paid over ten years, aligns with our current projected build timeline.
