Connect2First has built 4,371 miles of fiber network across 18 counties in Arkansas, and there are still over 600 miles to go. Candace Looper, the Sales and Marketing Director, mentioned that in areas where the service is available, the company is getting between 40 and 60 percent of people interested. Connect2First is owned completely by First Electric Cooperative and provides fiber-to-the-home internet and home phone service to coop’s members.
The total investment for the entire network build is estimated to be around $240 million, which includes funds from various government programs. To construct the fiber network, Connect2First got $17.8 million from the Federal Communications Commission’s Rural Digital Opportunity Fund and over $15 million from Arkansas’ Rural Connect Grant funds. Once the buildout is finished, Connect2First expects to have 30,000 active customers.
